How long a bathroom takes: the short answer
A standard bathroom renovation in Ireland takes 7 to 12 working days from the strip-out to the final clean. Wet rooms take longer, because the floor has to be laid to a fall and the tanking left to cure.
The stages, in order
| Stage | Days |
|---|---|
| Strip-out and skip | 1 |
| Plumbing first fix | 1 to 2 |
| Boarding and tanking, then drying | 1 to 2 |
| Tiling | 2 to 3 |
| Second fix and finishing | 2 to 3 |
| Total, working days | 7 to 12 |
Tanking and screed have to dry before tiling. That's where days slip.
The weeks before it starts
- Pick and order the tiles and the suite first. Tiles that have to be ordered in can take one to two weeks.
- A made-to-measure shower screen or vanity can take longer. Order it at the start.
- A grant job waits for the council's approval before anything starts.
Living with one bathroom
The room is out of use for the whole job. Ask whether the toilet can go back in at the end of each day, and for how many days there'll be no shower.
